Racing has always been a source of inspiration in the development of vehicle safety systems. In Top Fuel dragsters drop down tracks at speeds over 330 mph in a quarter mile race, serious security elements are essential.

The sensors can be placed anywhere on the accelerometers on the rim, rolled the car to tip the driver, which can measure forces on the car and driver.
Top-notch recorders can collect data along a drag race around - compared to older models that have only a trigger event and periods before and after the engine stops. The best ones are modified to operate outside their own battery power - rather than add to the draw on electrical system the car - and to store data in memory recovered through a high-speed link data to a PC computer. This helps in the evaluation experts what was happening in a car at any given point during the race.
