A brief history of Harley-Davidson
In 1905, Harley-Davidson is the first career win and first contract is emplyee. Three years later, in 1908, Harley-Davidson The first motorcycle sold for use in the police Service at Detroit Police Department. 1914 marks the year high definition within the formal national racing circuit, and is quickly known as "The Wrecking Crew" for his dominance in the racing industry. In 1917 a thrid of all motorcycles produced would be sold to the military, and was also the beginning of the School of Mechanical Harley-Davidson, for both military as civil bicycles.
By 1918 half of all motorcycles produced were sent to military service in World War 1, and Corporal Roy Holtz would first soldier riding a Harley-Davidson Motorcycles in Germany. 1920 marks the year that the largest motorcycle company in the world motorcycle industry, and has more than 2,000 distributors in 67 countries worldwide.
1931 is the year that almost all Harleys competitors are gone, with the exception of the company Indian Motorcycle. Harley-Davidson and Indian are the only two motorcycles in the United States until 1953. This, coupled with a new belt drive instead of chain drive and the new "Softail" frame with hidden rear shock, Harley became a very smooth ride and comfortable. 1981 was also the year Harley-Davidson bought AMC and took fusion subsequent control of the company.
The motorcycle company is traded on the American Stock Exchange, the first time since 1969, the year it merged with AMF HD. 1987 is the year of HD is traded on the New York Stock Exchange, and is publicly traded and business confidence in himself as a leader in the motorcycle industry is evident in this movement, as well as to initiate the "Repurchase Program" in which the owners of older Harleys able to operate in their old models and are filled trade-in price on a new "HOG."
Harley celebrates its 90th birthday and have a family reunion in Milwaukee, also having a financial interest in motorcycles started by Erik Buell Buell to manufacture American sport motorcycles using Harley-Davidson engines and in 1994 entered the industry superbike racing with his first liquid-cooled bike called VR1000. Harley celebrates 95 years in 1998 and 140,000 riders come to Milwaukee to help with the feast and celebration. Harley buys remaining 49% of Buell motorcycles becoming the majority owner of the company and make the founder Erik Buell president of operations.
In 2003, more than 250,000 runners converge on Milwaukee for the final stop of the Open Road Tour "and to celebrate Harley-Davidson 100th anniversary and the Party. Harley-Davidson Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) marks 25 years together as partners in the fight against Muscular Dystrophy. In 2006, Harley announced plans to open a museum for the company motorcycle and plans to open in 2008.
Through this time HD has been winning races and charities helping people and making life better. This brief history of the company building is only part of the legacy of Harley-Davidson. Most people associate high definition bikers outlaws and black leather jackets, but many people do not know the other side of things with Harley-Davidson. Working with charities and organizations throughout the growth racinf total company are things that many people do not realize this small family owned company, now America's largest manufacturer of motorcycles.
